Michael Carlyle Hall (born February 1, 1971)[1] is an American actor and musician. He is known for playing the titular character in the Showtime series Dexter (2006–2013) and David Fisher in the HBO drama series Six Feet Under (2001–2005).

Michael Carlyle Hall (born February 1, 1971)[1] is an American actor and musician. He is known for playing the titular character in the Showtime series Dexter (2006–2013) and David Fisher in the HBO drama series Six Feet Under (2001–2005). He won a Golden Globe Award for the former, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and received six total nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, which ties the record for most nominations in the category without a win.[2] He reprised his role of Dexter Morgan in the miniseries Dexter: New Blood (2021–2022) and Dexter: Original Sin (2024). Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Hall graduated from New York University's graduate acting program at the Tisch School of the Arts in 1996. He began his acting career on Broadway in the revival of Cabaret and appeared in a variety of shows throughout the 1990s. Aside from his roles on Six Feet Under and Dexter, he starred in the Broadway musical Hedwig and The Angry Inch (2014–2015) and in films including Paycheck (2003), Gamer (2009), Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House (2017), Game Night (2018), and In the Shadow of the Moon (2019).
